Scott's mom was able to come out from Michigan to spend a week with us. While she was here we traveled to Apple Hill to visit the orchards and experience the fall colors. We also spent a day and a half in San Fransisco touring Alcatraz, Fisherman's Warf, Ghirradeli Square, and North Beach. The weather was absolutely perfect while she was here. It was the warmest day I've ever experienced in San Fransisco, a perfect 75 degrees!
We enjoyed relaxing and working on other projects around the house like stringing up white lights in the tree in our backyard. Now our back patio glows with a warm luminious glow. Kona loved having Grandma here for the visit. Kona was so sad when she left, Scott let him sit in his lap for a while on the couch...
We've been staying busy with work and projects. We're looking forward to a couple days off for Thanksgiving.

Camping on the west coast has never been as much fun as it was with Jon, Jessica, Eli and Joshua Flowers. We spent the weekend camping near the Russian River. We visited the ocean, played in the River and Eli and Josh enjoyed their first smores. Kona enjoyed every moment from watching people walk by our campground, to running on the beach, and swimming in the River. Kona finally swam on his own (after some promptiing from Scott) and he couldn't get enough. We all had a great time watching Eli and Josh (2 years) play in the dirt and eat smores with their grubby little fingers. They made us laugh as they giggled while watching Scott and Jon throw the frisbee. And they were both quite cuddly after little sleep on the second night. With great weather, beautiful surroundings, and wonderful company it was the perfect camping weekend.

Scott and I had a great three-day weekend. We spent most of Saturday at the Air Show at Travis Air Force Base. We had a blast watching the old WWII planes, Aereobatics planes, and the Thunderbirds show their stuff. We also toured a C5-A, and got to see many other planes and jets up close.
We were also able to spend time with our friends and their dog at Tildburn park in Berkeley. Kona and his best friend Bentley played in the water and mud and had a great time shaking off all over us as we ate our lunches. We said goodbye to A as he leaves tomorrow for a 6 month deployment in Iraq.

After just one week on the new job we were invited to a Dinner Gala at a country club in Sacramento for a company party. We spent a great evening meeting some really wonderful people, eating great food, playing casino games, and dancing of course. It was a very fun time complete with a hotel room paid for by the company. The picture is the best we had, and I didn't want to take time to get rid of my red eyes....
Scott's new job is going well. He really enjoys the people that he is working with and he is learning the in's and out's of the company. He seems very happy there so far.
While in Sac we were also able to visit friends that just moved to Rocklin. We went hiking and out to dinner. We are very glad to be living closer to such great friends J. and E.
Happy Labor Day weekend!

I know it's been quite a while since we have updated our blog. This year has flown by so far! I'll update you with the most recent news first. We just returned from nearly two weeks in Michigan. We were able to spend time in Saginaw area with Scott's parents where we also visited a number of aunts and uncles and friends. We then traveled with Scott's parents to West Michigan to the town of Grand Haven where we met up with Scott's sister and her family. We spent a full week with all the family in a rented house across from the Lake Michigan. It was a fantastic vacation full of swimming riding bikes, sand dunes rides, sail boating, horseback riding, and lots of great food. It was a very special time for Scott and I to spend quality time with our immediate family. We felt very blessed. There were many highlights of the trip, but a memorable moment was finding a mouse in our bedroom on the lower floor. We spent the rest of the week camping in the living room. Three mice were found by the end of the week, the last one spotted by Scott's mom who saw it scamper out from the laudry room. She jumped up on top of the washing machine in fear and screemed for someone to help. (Exactly what I would have done) Another highlight was occured while our niece and nephew were taking a bath in the jacuzzi tub. Scott's sister had filled the tub with bubbles for the kids to take a bath. The bubbles were overflowing over the top of the tub. We decided it would be fun to take a picture of Uncle Scott, Aunt Jen, Mommy (A.) and Daddy (V.) and I.(6) and J.(2) in the tub together with the bubbles surrounding us. (wearing suits of course... ) The week was filled with thousands of other memories that we will cherish until the next family vacation... We are thankful for our time with our family in such a beautiful location.
Scott will be starting a new job this week working as a dispatcher for a commercial HVAC company (That's Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) He will start by dispatching drivers, and he hopes to learn how to be a service technician in the future. I am a nanny for four wonderful children. I love my job! (Although it doesn't really feel like a job!) We have been enjoying our friends at church and getting more involved with activities at church. Scott was involved with VBS in July and he will be starting to teach Sunday School for elementary age once a month.
The summer is coming to a close (Although its been hot! We're hoping to get another camping trip and beach trip with Kona soon. Kona seems to have topped out at 83lbs and he is a complete joy to have in our lives.

Merry Christmas!
We just got back from celebrating our two year anniversary on the Mendocino Coast. It was very quiet and relaxing. We enjoyed our own little cottage with a private hot tub and wood burning stove. We hiked 7 miles through the Redwood forest, and scoured a beach full of sea glass. We enjoyed amazing breakfasts each morning over-looking the ocean. WE also found Scott the perfect pair of shoes. Throughout the weekend we went to four different stores, and must have tried on 30 pairs of shoes. Finally we foudnd the perfect pair of Keens (our favorite brand!)- quite a celebration since he desperately needed a new pair of shoes and it is so hard to find them. The weekend was a great time to reflect on our marriage, and God's goodness in our lives. It has been a very busy two years indeed, but full of great blessings and God's faithfullness!
Scott has been working at General Petroleum as the Wherehouse Manager for over 6 months now. He has faced many challenges, and is still in the process of implementing an inventory management system. We are both very thankful for his job, and the opportunities for growth.
I am still working at Allstate for my brother, Bill, selling insurance. I will be starting a new job in January, taking over a Nanny position for a friend who is having her first baby. When first approached with the opportunity, I wasn't sure that it was something that I would enjoy. But after Scott and I met the family, and spent time with the kids, we knew that it is absolutely the right position for me! There are four children, three of whom are in school. I will be watching the two year old during the day at my house, and then at 3pm I will pick up the other kids from school and take them all to their house. They are a wonderful family, and the kids are a joy to be around! Scott and I both feel like we are already a part of their extended family, and we are looking forward to what we can learn from them, as well as the fun it will be to work with the kids. I will continue working for my brother a couple days a week since the Nanny position is three days.
Our wonderful puppy Kona is growing. He just turned one year, and he is VERY tall! He is a continual joy to us! He has been a great dog, although he did get into a couple presents under the tree. They are still partially wrapped though, so that is good! We walk him a few times a day, and he is always so happy to see us! Scott wrestles with him every night. Jake, the fluffy cat, is outside more than inside - except when it rains. We usually find him curled up at the foot of the bed in the early mornings. We finally put in a "doggy" door, so they are both free to come and go into the back yard when they need.
We will be spending the Christmas weekend at my parents. The entire Doberneck side of the family will be there for Christmas Eve. It will be the first time we have all been together for Christmas in quite a while.
We both wish we could be in Michigan for Christmas again this year... especially since there is actually snow there this year! (My father-in-law has promised me an ice-fishing trip for next time we are there!) Unfortunately Scott couldn't get the time off (he even is working part of the day Christmas Eve). We miss all our family and extended family in Michigan very much, and send our love and warm hugs!

We Just got back from 5 days in Beautiful Colorado Springs! We Loved every minute with our friends, hiking, and just driving around our old stomping grounds. We miss it to say the least! This pic was taken on the bridge at the Broadmoor Hotel, the same place we got engaged almost two years ago!

For the past couple months we have been "obsessed" with our roof. (Roofs in general really) Our house needed a new roof (pronounced "R OOOOO F" if you are Canadian, "Ruf" if you are American), so we decided to take on the job ourselves. We knew it would be a big job, but we didn't realize just HOW BIG! We started by pursuading the best roofing guy we know, Scott's Dad, Phil Persicke to come out from Michigan to help us with the projet. They spent many hours on the phone planning and discussing the project. We ordered the materials, borrowed most of the tools, purchased a permit, and rented a dumpster... We were ready!!!
Tear off began May 19th. It was by far the messiest and dirtiest part of the whole project. It would have made for a good episode of "The Dirtiest Jobs" on the Discovery Channel. Mike Rowe would have been happy to be there! (For those of you who have no clue what I am talking about.. check out "Dirtiest Jobs" on the Discovery Channel...) We had to literally scoop up bucket loads of dirt and dust from the yard when we were finished! Next we had to lay down new OSB since the old shingle shake roof didn't need that. Then came the tar paper, and finally the new shingles. We faced a few trials... mostly the heat in the afternoons which not only was twice as hot on top of the roof, but also made it hard to walk on the shingles without tearing them up. The only real injury was a couple stiches on Phil's hand.
Scott's Mom, Jackie came out during the second week to join the crew. She assisted in clean-up, cooking and housecleaning! We couldn't have finished the job without her! The Doberneck family was also much a part of the team. Dad and Bill and Adam spent countless hours sweating away on the hot roof. And Mom Doberneck was there preparing meals and providing support. We passed our final inspection with flying colors thanks to our fabulous Foreman, Phil! Thank you Mom and Dad Persicke!!! Thank you Mom and Dad Doberneck, and Bill and Adam!!! We couldn't have done it without any of you!
Even though the job took longer than expected (they always do) we still had time to travel a bit with Mom and Dad Persicke! We went Gold Panning in Jamestown, and we rode the Steam Engine Train (the same train they used to film many movies including Back to the Future!) We were sad to see Mom and Dad P go home!
During this crazy roofing project, Scott ended his job at Pacific Pulmonary and started a new job working for General Petroleum in Richmond. He spent his first week in training down in Long Beach (Southern California). He will be managing the warehouse that supplies all kinds of petroleum products to different companies and huge tankers in the San Francisco Bay. This is his first "real" week on the job, and he is enjoying it so far!
We are STILL "obsessed" with roofs... We drive around the neighborhood and analyze our neighbors roofs. We criticize crooked shingles and funny looking ridge caps. We think ours is the cleanest and best looking roof on the block! (Of course we aren't proud or anything...)
Oh, if any of you out there need help with your roof... let us know. If we are free, we can surely help! (Of course we are busy every weekend between now and 2010.)But if you do need some good advice on roofing, Scott is the newest expert!

I was the dumpster girl, and it was my job to "re-arrange" all the junk they threw in from the top of the roof to make sure it would all fit.
